GUWAHATI: Doctors in the state have hit out at Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) for allowing Ayurvedic doctors to conduct surgeries.
The Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) Assam chapter will join a protest demonstration against the move on December 8, whereas doctors practising modern medicine will withdraw from non-Covid and non-essential duties non-Covid services from 6 am to 6 pm following a call by the doctors’ association at the all-India level on December 11, in protest against the “mixing up of medical systems”.
A recent circular of CCIM, paving the way for allowing Ayurvedic postgraduate doctors to practise various surgeries, which are otherwise carried out by surgeons under the modern medical system, has raised concerns among doctors opposing the move.
